The Invisible Sandman

You have a secret superpower: the ability to appear and disappear at will. When and where will you use this new superpower? Tell us a story.

Well the story is HG Wells’ The Invisible Man which after seeing so many films based on the concept surprised me, namely how unpleasant Griffin, the titular character is. He’s not the supersleuth of many films but an arrogant reckless scientist who falls victim to his hubris and slowly starts to loose his sanity. Though it is interesting that there is a major plot hole in that he can make invisible clothes but fails to do so after making himself invisible, which kind of drops a problem on his issues with fighting the elements in his early invisible life. It isn’t my favourite HG Wells book but it is entertaining and has some very memorable moments such as the tramp watching Griffin’s lunch digest, the landlord of the pub watering down the beer and adding root beer to the mix to disguise the thin taste and the big reveal when Griffin flips out for the first time.
