My immediate thought from Today’s prompt is of the big band number I’m Getting Sentimental Over You, which was the signature tune for the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Now call me a heathen but I always preferred the Dorsey Orchestra to the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Miller have the legacy of his band while Dorsey was eclipsed by the success of his singer, a certain Francis Albert Sinatra, but the Dorsey band swings much much harder. OK you my throw the usual Miller tracks at me eg In the Mood, Chattenooga Choo-Choo, Kalamazoo, Apple Tree etc, but outside of these tracks the Miller Orchestra is much more saccharine and safe sounding. Dorsey swings the clappers off his numbers. For in the Mood I trump you with Opus One, Chattenooga Choo-Choo I raise you Boogie Woogie, Moonlight Serenade I raise your stake and play you I’m Getting Sentimental Over You.
I am firmly in the Dorsey camp on this front.
