You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s the signpost up ahead – your next stop, the Twilight Zone!
In many ways that is a good parallel for a dream, we are creators of our personal Twilight Zones when we sleep, stories of imagination bought forward by the events of the day which we have taken in consciously or unconsciously. Dreams are also sometimes called the sorting office of the mind, it is our brains way of making sense of the day and leaving us refreshed for the next day. A lack of REM sleep has been tied up with a feeling of restlessness and intellectual fog the following day and increased irritability.
Going back to the Twilight Zone, one episode which really stands in my mind was an episode called Shadowplay, in which a felon convicted to a death sentence is really living a recurring nightmare and his execution will be the death of everyone as they are all contracts of his imagination. I quite like that episode which goes against the grain of most dream episodes as they are normally lacking in conviction due to the plot nature.
