I can’t think of many places I would call a ‘Sanctuary’ these days, once upon time the Sandman would look to find wisdom and escape at houses of the church of the fermented hop and barley, but with nearly 17 years worth of pub trade experience going to a pub always has a bit of a busman’s holiday feel at it. It is always probably true that my visits to a pub in patron capacity are more now bourn out of routine rather then any need for finding solace and companionship.

These days I tend to find sanctuary in the form of music or in the pages of a book, somewhere I can leave this world metaphorically behind and escape to places beyond the limits of flesh and blood.
