“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to catch his own fish and he’ll sit in a boat drinking beer all day.” No idea, probably Jay Leno or some such.
My first thought upon reading this prompt was of childhood memories of fishing trips with my Dad on which I got incredibly bored on being four or five. Fishing was a hobby of my Dad’s and while working for Tarmac he won various trophies in the company’s fishing club, he mostly did fly fishing as opposed to using maggots. Most of the places he fished were places where you could take away what you caught, so I was quite familiar with Rainbow Trout for dinner, I don’t know why he stopped.
“Fishing is complete and utter madness”- Spike Milligan
My second thought was of a famous duet recording between two musical titans of the 20th century: Messers Henry Lillis “Bing” Crosby and old Satchmo himself Louis Armstrong called “Gone Fishing”. It is a good recording and shows the two guys engaging in warm relaxed banter with one another, chemistry which can also be found in High Society, the Cole Porter musical based on The Philadelphia Story.
