The Man with the Sack is Coming

Normally I wouldn’t comment on Christmas this early into November because, well it is bloody November! But as I sit in the staff room with a steaming hot cup of tea I find it faintly amusing that today we had our first Christmas coach party… Yes I know but it was some senior citizen social group who have their social meet ups on a Wednesday and considering how booked up we are in December and end of November, it was probably a bargain of necessity rather than a premature desire to celebrate Yuletide.

Anyway, from a staff point of view it wasn’t so bad as it gave us a bit of a rehearsal on running the Christmas menu before it starts properly. Yes, of course we have seen it written down but until you physically see the items and prep them you aren’t 100% sure of the set up. Gives us a warm up and chance to iron out any crinkles.

So all this Yuletide Joy got me starting think of my Holiday Season Entertainment List.

So here is what I have thought of so far

Films

Holiday Inn- Starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

Scrooged- starring Bill Murray with a cameo appearance by Miles Davis

It’s A Wonderful Life

And of course the ultimate Christmas movie: Die Hard.

TV

The Avengers: Dressed to Kill/Too Many Christmas Trees/Take-Over. All episodes with a seasonal theme.

Doctor Who:Last Christmas/A Christmas Carol/The Snowmen- these are pretty much the Christmas specials I really rate. On the whole I find the Christmas episodes plodding filler.

Music

Ella Fitzgerald: Ella Wishes you a Swinging Christmas. That’s about the only Christmas album I own lol.

Ragtag Daily Prompt: Holiday

  1. I love the Dr. Who Christmas specials. Except The Doctor, The Widow, and the Wardrobe. Although A Christmas Carol is close second. I loved Last Christmas.

    • The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe was an odd one. Felt like it was a contractual obligation episode which is why it is rather lacklustre and I get the impression Moff didn’t like Christmas specials (hence the last three not really having much to do with Christmas)
