What’s wrong but sounds right?

Buy one get one free offers. It’s really a big con to load you up with unnecessary items. When just sell the items at half the price?

What physical action or gesture do you find romantic?

I’ve never really given it much thought before, I not really the romantic type. I think just spending time together constructively is enough.

What’s something you really resent paying for?

Not so much me as I have no annoying little brats children of my own but the school bus pass. £500 to send your child to school is absurd, if it was say £80 I wouldn’t mind so much but it’s not like it’s using a bus for a pleasure jaunt. Before anyone says “go to a closer school’ it isn’t that simple. Say the child doesn’t get accepted or the school is not right for them? Where I live there is are two schools which I would say are of comfortable walking distance for a teenage child (about 1.8 miles is what I call acceptable) and one of those is a test-entry school. It’s a big fat con.

What’s your favorite romance movie? A movie you may find romantic, even if that’s not the genre. I’ve been watching a lot of those lately, loosely titled “romance movie” and found a surprising number of dramas, action and comedy among the hearts and flowers.

Erm I don’t really do Romantic movies. Does Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo count? A love story is kind of essential to the plot.

The Hunger Games trilogy with its love triangle?

Rebecca? Hmmmm a lot of these have a rather dark take on love and relationships.

What were you uplifted by in the past week?

Being able to attend not one but two Jazz gigs. Notably a young rising saxophonist called Alex Clarke who I discovered after browsing through my Upton upon Severn notes sat in with T J Johnson a few years ago.

  1. Sounds like Your World was great this week! And I’m with you…school fees. I don’t have and never will have children, so why should I pay increasingly high taxes for other people’s sometimes huge families? I could accept that better if the money actually went to improving the quality of education here, but I’ve heard from a lot of teachers and they get paid little for their time and sometimes dangerous jobs. Thanks SandmanJazz!!

  2. Buy one/get one sales are one of the toughest lessons to get through my kid’s head. NO! It’s NOT free! It just means both items are half price, so unless you needed two to begin with…oh well, maybe once she’s earning & spending her own money it will sink in…

  3. Families have to pay to use school buses??
I think they’re free here but I have no idea of the requirements to be picked up since most parents drive their kids to school. Growing up, I walked a mile to/from school everyday… rode a bike 5 miles (1way) to summer school and never thought twice about it. Now parents literally escort their kids from next door to the school across the street… they’re not trusted to be safe walking alone for a distance of 2 house lengths, despite (or because off) a billion other parents & kids being out. Sad times.
