3TC: Black Planet

Out on the far reaches of ALSS territory sits the Black Planet, it is not very much larger than the Earth and is the sole planet orbiting a dying sun. The only other body in that solar system is an asteroid half the size of the planet. The planet has an atmosphere but the surface conditions are hostile so a colony was settled beneath the surface drawing power and heat from the geothermal resources available.

“INFORMATION. THE PERSEPHONE HAS REACHED ITS DESTINATION AND ACHIEVED PLANETERY ORBIT.” Boomed Frank, the standard issue flight computer for all ALSS craft.

Supreme Commander Tanel checked the readings on the lynx console and ordered a surface scan. Technically the Black Planet was not an unknown quantity but there was something about the planet which unnerved him.

“SCAN COMPLETED. ENERGY LEVELS INDICATE THAT THE COLONY IS PERFORMING ABOVE EXPECTED PARAMETERS. THE SURFACE IS UNDER ELECTRICAL STORM BOMBARDMENT.”

Tanel smiled, it was typical of the Senate to opt to colonise a hostile planet purely because the principle structure of the planet was solid black diamond. He switched on his communication device and summond Intelligence Officer Genna and the Medical Officer to the deck.

Mork, the Medical Officer, was first to arrive on deck. Mork was a native of Felitas VI aka the Planet of Medicine and as such was a bipead who resembled a cat. Mork however was not an overly groomed speciman as he still had the cheese sauce from lunch on his whiskers and the fur around his mouth. Genna followed a moment later. It was time for the briefing. Mork wasn’t going to very happy, he hated being assigned to surface duties… Especially ones a planet where it rained shards of glass.
