30 Day Book Challenge #Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 in my 30 Book Challenge, today’s prompt is “a book you didn’t finish.”

This is slightly open to interpretation as it depends in what context you take “didn’t finish” to mean. Is this a book you put down and never got back to? A book you left somewhere in error/had stolen/had ripped up by your Religious Education teacher?

I am taking it to mean as in “deliberately chose to stop reading”, and I am going to put the first book I started to read then gave up as an adult: The History of Mr Polly by HG Wells.

This was apparently a humorous book by HG Wells and is very different from his more famous science fiction stories, it is also apparently partially autobiographical.

One thing for sure, it was dull. The titular chatacter is whiney, pathetic, unlikable and unengaging and after slogging it through two thirds of the book, I gave up. Life is too short to read books you aren’t enjoying for pleasure.
