Welcome back to my 30 Day Book Challenge. Today is day 10 and the prompt is “A book that makes you cry happy tears”.
As with breaking my heart on a previous post, we have a small difficulty that I haven’t read that has made me cry tears of happiness because of my obvious heart of stone.
So I am going to go with a near comparison and pick a book which made me laugh so many times it is possible that my eyes watered.
The book is Down by Lawrence Miles and is a humourous sci-fi book which is mostly set in the interior of a hollow planet. The setting is clearly a spoof on Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth as the inner world is populated by “not very convincing prehistoric monsters”, and as the story progresses we find the adventure stepping into pulp sci-fi territory with a squad of rubber uniformed Nazis, a mad scientist with an OTT Germanic accent, and a super hero by the name of Mr Misnomer. Mixed in the madness are some of Mad Larry’s trademark reality shattering concepts and reimaginings of sci-fi concepts. I don’t know what he was smoking when he wrote the novel but all I know is that I want to know what it was, and more importantly, where can I get it!
