The Monday Peeve 29th June

This is my first participation in the Monday Peeve series set up by Light Motifs, here is a brief explanation as to what it is:

Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (haha).

Today is not exactly a peeve as such more mental prep for the return to bar on Saturday and is aimed at all pubs not specifically the one I work at. First thing up is that while I am not quite convinced that it is quite the correct time to be lifting these elements of the lockdown just yet, I have a feeling it has been a bargain of necessity as the onslaught of summer begins because there would likely be a sudden explosion of  “prohibition” parties and gatherings which would put an enormous strain on the local resources (there already have been a few illegal raves) plus they would present a real challenge in trying to identify people if needed. At least with Pubs and Clubs (as in Services and Working Men’s clubs as opposed to nightclubs) there can be a certain degree of control and regulation on the people coming in- I am not sure how this collecting names is going to work out but local pubs with a series of regulars would likely be able to track down their clients if needed and most food pubs take a contact number for table bookings anyway, so I feel there will be a lot of places operating on a bookings only service.

So first up, don’t be shitty if you are expected to wear a mask when not at your table, don’t get pissed off that you can’t prop the bar up for the time being and don’t take it out on your server, similarly don’t throw an icky fit if your server is wearing a mask- it might well be the businesses policy.

Don’t be a dick when giving your details- create an email address purely for contact on this issue if you don’t want to give out your telephone number.

I am sorry that we aren’t doing the carvery for the moment, we are trying to practice as much social distancing as we can.

Stop whining that you can’t use the same glass, and really servers shouldn’t be doing that at all.

Don’t get shirty if you can’t be accommodated, you should have booked, those empty tables are reserved for patrons who have booked and aren’t here yet.

Oh and don’t get all Jack Torrance on us because service is slower then normal… of course it will be as there are going to be less on at any one time.

So enjoy your beer, enjoy being able to eat out again and be nice to your servers.
