Welcome back to my 30 Film Challenge courtesy of Cineworld cinemas, today is day 27 and the prompt is your favourite Superhero movie.
Superhero films are currently enjoying a renaissance and the playing field is quite wide and varied, ranging from the sunny upbeat vibe of the Marvel films to the dark broodiness of Zack Snyder’s films in the DC Universe. Of course there have been many Superhero films in the past but not many have struck such a mainstream trend which doesn’t appear to be disappearing anytime soon.
I going to go back to the 1990s for my choice, which in turn takes us back to 1930s radio with the 1994 film The Shadow.

The film was based on the 1930s radio series of the same name, and stars Alec Baldwin as a former crime lord who has the psychic powers to cloud people’s minds and now fights crime as atonement. The plot is a fairly standard affair but the pseudo-noir images are very striking and the guest cast includes Tim Curry and Ian McKellen, the soundtrack is pretty awesome too.

A truly classic ‘superhero’ film. The noir feel to it was a bit overwhelming for my taste, but maybe I need to see it again! Great choice!
