Day 3: An Album You Played too Death
I’ve had many many many albums on high rotation so this could be tricky, but I am going to go with The Lester Young Story.
This is a 4 CD box-set produced by Proper Records and has a wide selection of Lester Young’s work which was out of copyright (in Europe) at time of release, and features Lester in the company of Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Buddy Rich, Nat King Cole and the Jazz at the Philharmonic set up amongst others. The set comes with a wonderfully detail booklet with a brief history of Lester Young life plus details about each recording presented on the set. I purchased this around the time I had my first car which was fairly old and hadva and a tape player, so the Lester Young Story was one I transferred to tape to listen to in the car.
As you can see, the box has been through the wars a bit.
